모든 것으로부터의 자유와 화평을

 

 

세상에 보내는 사과

                                                                   -엘리엇 킴

 

사과한다.

모든 세상 사람들에게

내가 살아있던 동안 폐를 끼친 모든 사람들에게

그저 내게 온정을 베풀었던 모든 사람들에게

모든 ‘나’를 낳아 길러주신 부모님께

모든 형제자매들에게.

 

사과한다.

남을 위해 희생한 모든 사람들에게

함께 사는 식물과 동물들을 아끼고 가꾼 사람들에게

세상의 불행한 사람들을 보살피고 돌보았던 사람들에게

우리에게 일용할 양식을 준 농부와 어부, 그리고 모든 일손들에게

하늘이 내려준 하나의 정의의 선을 긋기 위해 노력하는 재판관들에게

인류를 걱정하는 몇몇 과학자들에게

행동양심적이어 민생을 위하는 극소수 정치인들에게.

 

사과한다.

모든 살아있는 것들에게

시들어가는 꽃과 제대로 성장할 수 없었던 것들에게

모든 묘비와 무덤에게

통할할 수 없었던 우주의 근원과 그 그림자

승화할 수 없었던 그리움에게.

 

사과한다.

나의 게으름과 무지와 광기에 대해

나의 존엄의 해일과 걷잡을 수 없었던 파격과 일탈과 격노와

비판과 무례와 몰체면과

침몰할 수 없었던 열정과

나의 과거 속의 이 모든 것

하나의 불덩어리의 소산에 대해. 

 

사과한다.

내가 이루지 못한 뜻과 능력에 대해.

AN APOLOGY TO THE WORLD

I apologize

to all the people in this world,

to all the people whom I have troubled while I live,

to all the people who have given warm hearts to me,

to all the parents who bear and grow 'me' up,

to all the brothers and sisters,

 

I apologize

to all the people who sacrificed themselves for others

to all the people who love and care for the plants and animals

to all the people who have taken considerate care of unhappy people,

to the judges who always try to draw a line for Justice down from Heaven,

to a handful of scientists who have worried about humans

to rare politicians of behavior!!al conscience who know politics,

 

I apologize

to all the living things,

to withering flowers and beings that couldn't have normally grown up,

to all the inscriptions and tombs,

to the unidentifiable origin of the universe and its shade,

*'Grium' that can't be sublimated.

 

I apologize

for my laziness, ignorance, madness

and my *'Haeil' of dignity, exceptional informality,

deviation and rage uncontrollable

and sharp criticism, rudeness, indignity and passion unsinkable.

for all of these in my past,

for the whole products of one fireball in myself.

 

I apologize to poetry

for the will and ability that I couldn't realize.
